On 3 July 2026, we proudly hosted the Afro-Caribbean Festival at the Meridian Showground. The event was a wonderful celebration of African and Caribbean culture, bringing together families, friends, local organisations, and visitors from across North East Lincolnshire for a day of music, food, dance, and community spirit.
The festival featured a vibrant programme of live entertainment, including choirs, Afrobeat, reggae, soca, and traditional dance performances. Throughout the day, people of all ages and backgrounds came together to sing, dance, eat, and celebrate, creating an atmosphere of joy, friendship, and togetherness.
A wide variety of food stalls showcased the rich flavours and traditions of African and Caribbean heritage, giving visitors the opportunity to enjoy authentic cuisine and experience the diverse cultures represented. The event encouraged people to share food, stories, music, and traditions in a welcoming and inclusive environment.
One of the highlights of the festival was seeing children from all backgrounds playing together on the bouncy castle, laughing, making new friends, and enjoying the day side by side. Families and friends danced together, ate together, and celebrated together, demonstrating the true spirit of community and inclusion.
The Afro-Caribbean Festival showed how culture can bring people together, breaking down barriers and creating meaningful connections. Events like this should be encouraged in diverse communities such as North East Lincolnshire, as they promote understanding, celebrate cultural diversity, strengthen community cohesion, and create lasting memories for everyone involved.
We are incredibly grateful to our volunteers, performers, vendors, community groups, and everyone who attended for helping to make the festival such a success. It was inspiring to see so many people come together in unity to celebrate our shared community while embracing African and Caribbean heritage. We are proud to have made this event happen.
