Men’s Support Group Purpose:
To provide a culturally sensitive and empowering space for Black and migrant men to explore identity, wellbeing, and community leadership in a safe and supportive environment.
Aims:
- Promote emotional wellbeing and mental health awareness
- Create awareness around health inequalities affecting Black men
- Encourage positive masculinity and self-reflection
- Support integration and adaptation to UK systems and culture
- Build confidence, communication skills, and self-reliance
- Reduce isolation and foster meaningful connections
- Address stigma around help-seeking and vulnerability
- Create pathways to employment, leadership, and civic engagement
Each aim is grounded in cultural intelligence and designed to foster agency, resilience, and community impact.
Structure:
Frequency:
Monthly meetings delivered through a hybrid model.
- Face-to-face sessions: Held at accessible community venues to build trust and deepen relationships.
- Virtual sessions: Hosted via Zoom or Teams to increase accessibility and continuity, especially for those with transport or time constraints.
Format:
- Facilitated group discussions
- Skills-building workshops (e.g. navigating health systems, communication, conflict resolution)
- Guest speakers (clinicians, community leaders, lived-experience advocates)
- Peer-led storytelling and cultural exchange
- Health-focused sessions (e.g. prostate cancer, hypertension, mental health disparities)
Environment:
Safe, non-judgmental, and culturally affirming space where men can speak openly, build trust, and take ownership of their wellbeing.
