Celebrating Everyday Black Leadership Across North Lincolnshire and the Humber
The Health Gospel CIC is proud to join organisations across the UK in marking Black History Month 2026, centred on this year’s national theme: Honouring Our Communities.
This theme recognises that community is not defined by geography alone, it is defined by people. Black people. It shines a light on the individuals whose everyday contributions strengthen the fabric of British life, even when their work goes unnoticed.
For many years, Black History Month has rightly celebrated prominent figures whose achievements changed history. That recognition remains vital. But history is also shaped quietly, through consistent acts of care, leadership and responsibility carried out every day in homes, workplaces and neighbourhoods.
Across North Lincolnshire, the Humber and the wider UK, Black individuals show up for others in ways that sustain and uplift communities:
- Volunteers who give their time without expectation
- Teachers who shape futures far beyond the classroom
- Nurses, carers and clinicians who offer dignity and compassion
- Community organisers who bring people together and advocate for change
Their work may not always be recorded, but it is deeply felt in the strength of relationships, the support systems they build, and the spaces where people find belonging. They continue a long tradition within Black British history rooted in resilience, mutual support and collective progress.
From early Black presence in Britain to the Windrush generation and beyond, community has been central to survival and advancement. It has provided identity, strength and a foundation for creativity and change. Today, that legacy lives on through the everyday contributions of individuals across the UK.
Honouring Our Communities is about making those contributions visible.
It reminds us that history is not only something we reflect on, it is being shaped right now by people whose commitment and care strengthen our collective future.
Throughout October, The Health Gospel CIC will be sharing stories, voices and reflections from local Black individuals whose work makes a difference where they are in families, workplaces, neighbourhoods and community spaces. Many of these individuals may not be widely known, but their impact is profound.
As an organisation dedicated to improving health, wellbeing, safety and inclusion for the Global majority communities, we are honoured to celebrate those who embody the spirit of community every day.
